Is Metal Tube Rotameter Right for Your Application?

Metal tube rotameters offer something no electronic meter can match — reliable, low-maintenance flow measurement with no power requirement and no moving parts to fail. But like any technology, they perform best within a defined set of conditions.

Metal Tube Rotameter Excels Here

Your medium is liquid, gas, or steam with no solid content or particulates

Your fluid is corrosive, toxic, or otherwise incompatible with glass wetted components

Your installation environment is hazardous or explosion-proof certification is required

Your flow rate is low to moderate and measurement conditions are relatively stable

Your application demands local visual indication without external power supply

Long service intervals and minimal maintenance requirements are operationally important

Consider alternatives instead

Your fluid contains particulates, fibres, or entrained gas bubbles that interfere with float position

Your process involves highly viscous media where float drag introduces significant measurement error

Your flow rate varies rapidly and fast dynamic response is required

Accuracy requirements are tighter than ±1.5% and a certified custody-transfer grade is needed

Your process demands real-time diagnostics, data logging, or integration with a digital control system

Your pipe diameter exceeds DN150 and a full-bore design is necessary

Not sure whether metal tube rotameter fits your application?

Key Features & Advantages

What Rotameter Delivers to Your Process

From corrosive chemical lines to hazardous area installations, our metal tube rotameters are engineered to perform reliably where standard instruments reach their limits.

Full Metal Construction for Aggressive Media

Every wetted component is available in stainless steel, PTFE, or titanium. There is no glass to break, no plastic to degrade, and no material compatibility limitation for the vast majority of industrial process fluids.

High-Temperature Operation to 350°C

Standard configurations are rated to 120°C and 4.0 MPa. High-temperature variants extend operation to 350°C, and high-pressure builds reach 20 MPa for demanding process environments.

Local Indication Without External Power

The indicating version requires no power supply to display flow locally — ideal for remote installations, energy-sensitive facilities, and locations where running electrical supply is impractical.

No Wear Components, No Recalibration Cycle

The measurement principle involves no rotating parts, no bearings, and no components subject to flow-induced wear — meaning the calibration remains stable over years of continuous operation.

Broad Wetted Material Selection

Wetted components are available in 304, 316L, PTFE lining, and titanium — covering the full range of corrosive media from acids and alkalis to solvents and high-purity process fluids.

Explosion-Proof Certified for Hazardous Areas

Intrinsic safety and flame-proof certifications to ExiaIICT6 and ExdIICT6 are available as direct ordering options — no third-party enclosures, no field modifications, no additional certification process required.

Broad Flow Range Coverage

Available from DN15 to DN150 with a 10:1 turndown ratio, covering liquid flows from 1 L/h and gas flows from 0.05 m³/h — suitable for micro-dosing applications through to full process line measurement.

Simultaneous Local and Remote Output

Electric remote transmission variants output a standard 4–20mA signal with optional HART communication, enabling full integration with DCS and SCADA systems without additional signal converters.
