Portable Ultrasonic Flowmeter
Instant Flow Measurement Without Pipe Modification
- Pipe Size: DN15 – DN6000 (½" – 240")
- Flow Accuracy: ±1% of reading (±0.5% optional)
- Velocity Range: 0.01 – 25 m/s
- Transducers: 5 sizes for complete pipe range
- Data Logging: 10,000+ records with timestamps
Four reasons portable ultrasonic meters outperform permanent installations for temporary and audit applications
- 10-15 minute installation—no shutdown, welding, or permits required
- DN15-DN6000 range—one instrument handles all pipe sizes
- 8-12 hours battery life—full day of field measurements
- 10,000+ record capacity—complete audit documentation built-in
Advantages vs. Fixed Installation
Choose Portable Ultrasonic When:
✓ Temporary measurement required (hours, days, weeks)
✓ Multiple measurement points across facility or sites
✓ Commissioning verification before permanent meter installation
✓ Backup verification for existing meters
✓ Rental/loaner meter more economical than purchase
✓ Process shutdown not possible for inline installation
✓ Quick troubleshooting or diagnostic measurement
✓ Mobile service van equipment
Choose Permanent Installation When:
✓ Continuous long-term monitoring required
✓ Remote data transmission to SCADA/BMS
✓ Custody transfer or billing accuracy critical
✓ Process control or automatic valve operation
✓ Single fixed measurement point
✓ Higher accuracy than ±1% required
✓ Harsh environment requiring rugged industrial enclosure

Follow these steps for accurate portable measurements
Pipe Location Selection
- Ideal Location: Straight pipe section: 10D upstream, 5D downstream from bends, valves, or fittings.
- Full Pipe: Ensure pipe completely full—avoid high points where air can accumulate.
- Accessibility: Choose location where transducers can be installed and remain undisturbed during measurement period.
Surface Preparation
- Metal Pipes: Remove paint, rust, mill scale with wire brush or sandpaper. Bare metal surface required.
- Plastic Pipes: Clean with solvent to remove dirt and oils. Light sanding improves couplant adhesion.
- Couplant Application: Apply generous amount of ultrasonic couplant gel to transducer face and pipe surface.
Transducer Mounting
- Alignment: Use alignment fixtures or markings to ensure parallel transducer orientation. Misalignment causes weak signal.
- Mounting Straps: Tighten mounting chain or straps firmly. Transducers must not move during measurement.
- Signal Verification: Check signal quality percentage (>60% good, >75% excellent). Adjust transducer position if weak.
Measurement Tips
- Stable Conditions: Allow system to stabilize before recording data. Avoid measurements during startup, shutdown, or transients.
- Multiple Points: For critical measurements, take readings at multiple pipe locations and average results.
- Temperature: Allow transducers to temperature-stabilize (5-10 minutes) for hot or cold pipe measurements.
